Here is a very good comparison that I found on the site Wanarun.net between gels and energy drinks:
According to this article (link here ) Sebastien Peltier, PhD in sports science, there would be 10 to 20% of patients with digestive problems with taking gels rather than drink ...
No wonder, for my part I can not swallow more than 2 or 3 gels during a race after this is the drama ...!
And you?

I gave up gels ...
I honestly never felt better the shot after taking a gel,
by I often feel like vomiting, inability to swallow see more than 2 or 3.
I prefer the duo isotonic drink / energy bar.

Gels I bcp wrong but also the drink c ... good!
: No:
I do not like the taste, always had a hard time swallowing these gels, and the few times I took, as Lexel, I felt nothing special. I use against by the isotonic drink before, during and after training, energy bars and fruit pastes ...
Me, gels ... it's a see two max ...
As Lexel, it makes me want to vomit ... Some are very thick and too sweet.
Those tested D4: # http://www.decathlon.fr/FR/gel-energy-pomme-verte-25259811/
I recommend ... I preferred to those in "Isostar".
As for drinks, I became a follower of "syrup for sport" Teissiere (in good Grenoble)
A good price / quality ratio. http://www.teisseirepourlesport.com/

From what I see nobody supports gels: nb:
I like gels but I recognize that the right balance is tricky. Avoid enquiller is a gel in one take and drink. Now the problem is the same with the drinks ... including a dosing error depending on the ambient temperature is evil to guarantee flop especially for the longer races.
